    Like in an orchard, we plant the seeds of quality education and we grow together as individuals who each have unique characteristics and thus make a valuable contribution to society. We feed the mind, soul and body so that we can bear fruit - now and in the future. With our roots anchored in sound values and the Word of God, we are steadfast in our principles for the benefit of South Africa and the world.

    We strive to achieve the above through thorough planning, hard work and total dedication to our school and our responsibilities. We want to live out our motto, "Growing Together", in everything we do.

  • Parent involvement

    We support the biblical principle that parents are primarily responsible for the education of their children. The school creates an educational climate that supports the biblical values and principles of the parental home. It is therefore important that parents and learners of Pomario endorse the value system of the school and accept it in their own lives.

    Regular contact between the school and parents is encouraged; either informally, or during formal events such as parents' evenings.

Pomario Private School provides an enriched learning environment that has helped countless students get ahead.

Established in 2012, the school is located in Citrusdal and reflects the diverse backgrounds and cultures of the area. We’re extremely proud of our students and staff, who are always eager to learn, create and grow together.

Pomario Private School is a Christian-based, double-medium private school, committed to offering top-class education with individual attention in small classes. Our school culture is unique and welcoming. We pride ourselves on the positive and encouraging relationships between students, teachers and parents.

OUR HISTORY

Citrusdal had one Departmental Model C combined primary and high school for years, but it was converted to a Primary School in 2011.

The Department built a new high school in the town, but parents were uncertain about when it would be completed. Consequently, they decided to start a tutoring centre and adopt a home-school approach.

Mrs Teresa Tierie was approached to begin with 13 learners from Grades 8 to 12, and the old bowling hall was put into use.

It soon became clear that the tutoring centre needed to evolve into a full-fledged school. An application was made to the Department of Education, and in 2013, we were accredited by the Western Cape Department of Education.

In 2013, a new teacher was appointed, and we started the first school in Citrusdal to offer English as a home language. Learners from grades 1 to 6 joined us, and due to a lack of space, 7 learners began lessons in a garage!

By mid-2013, the primary school moved to the same premises, and a mobile classroom was rented.

In 2014, a third teacher joined us and started offering grade R (preschool) to grade 3.

In 2015, another teacher joined, and preschool was separated from the foundational phase.

From 2016 to 2019, the school grew to 13 staff members, including a secretary and three assistants.

By 2019, we had 69 learners. Now 2026, we have a total of 201 learners, with 34 staff members.

Our value system is based on Christian principles.

Afrikaans, as well as English, as the language of instruction, is a significant advantage for the many English speakers in our valley.

Currently, we have plans to expand. Parents and local businesses were approached to step in as investors and help raise funds for future builds.

Pomario is a private school and receives no subsidy from the state.

The local no-fee school is overcrowded, and the no-fee high school also has large classes, with up to 60 students per class.

At Pomario, we believe in the benefits of smaller class sizes and a holistic approach to education. Our goal is to prepare learners for the real world, enhancing their self-esteem and self-motivation through our unique teaching methods.

We currently have 20 classrooms, but we still need funds to furnish a hall, media room and sports facilities. In the near future, we will expand further with additional classrooms and a residence to provide a safe, nurturing environment for children from surrounding towns, allowing more students the privilege of growing up in the countryside.
